Meet the Team
Musical Director: Sarah Robinson
Sarah graduated from Newcastle University with a First Class Honours Degree in Music. She then went on to gain her Masters Degree and has completed her PhD. She is a specialist music teacher at Weatherfield Academy in Dunstable and is passionate about her work with people with learning disabilities. Sarah is the SEND music co-ordinator for Inspiring Music (the county music service) and is head of Leighton Linslade Music Centre where she also runs two special needs groups on a Saturday morning.
Sarah is soon to embark on a music therapy degree course at Roehampton University.
Sarah plays the euphonium, flute, piano and trombone.
As our MD, Sarah has developed an ethos of making music fun and accessible to anyone who wants to have a go. She is encouraging and pushes us to achieve our best.
Chair: Ruth Robinson
Ruth was one of the founder members of MusicMakers and is delighted that we have continued to grow and develop as a community group.
She started to learn the piano at school but was too nervous and shy to play in public and found exams terrifying! She took up the piano again when Sarah started to learn and steeled herself to sit exams. Since then she has been learning to play the flute and, more recently, the tenor horn.
Because MusicMakers is a non-judgemental, supportive group it allows less confident musicians, like herself, the opportunity to explore their musical abilities. It's ok to make mistakes; that's how we all learn.
Treasurer: Stephen Robinson
Steve does not play a musical instrument but does have a great love of music. If it wasn't for Scouts also meeting on a Friday evening (he's a scout leader for Toddington Scouts) then we might have persuaded him to learn a new musical skill!
He has very kindly agreed to be treasurer for Toddington MusicMakers now that Simon has moved onto pastures new and we are very grateful to him for taking on this role
